Anovulation

Anovulation is the failure of the ovary to ovulate during the female menstrual cycle. This can be related to hormone problems such as an imbalance or problems with the pituitary gland, hypothalamus, thyroid, or another organ related to the hormone cycle.

anovuljacija_1Failure to produce mature eggs is a very common cause of infertility, as seen in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. In women with this syndrome, the ovary does not produce all of the hormones it needs for an egg to fully mature, significantly reducing the chances of fertility. Another concern for this syndrome is the excessive amount of estrogen produced, which can increase the risk for breast and endometrial cancer.

Other problems possibly leading to anovulation may include scarred ovaries from multiple surgeries, endometriosis, infections, premature menopause, or follicular problems.
