Other Services

In addition to assessing, diagnosing and treating a variety of fertility problems affecting couples who wish to become pregnant, our specialists at GREFI also provide a number of other gynecologic services to individuals throughout Puerto Rico. For example: management of symptoms associated with menopause, long-term storage of eggs, sperm or embryos for implantation at a later date, methods of controlling the sex of a child, and even services for pediatric or adolescent patients experiencing gynecologic problems. The following is a list of additional services we provide here at GREFI.

Gynecologic & Otyher Services Provided By Our Specialists

  • Sex selection This process allows parents to attempt to control the sex of their child prior to birth. In pre-implantation methods of sex selection, the second chromosome is actively rendered a Y chromosome for a male or an X chromosome for a female.
  • Pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) PGD is a process in which DNA is retrieved from an embryo and evaluated to determine if inheritance of a problematic gene is present. In most cases of PGD, one or both parents have been screened and found to be carriers of a particular problem that could be passed on to the child.
  • Cryopreservation Cryopreservation involves freezing eggs, sperm or embryos for long-term storage, in order to be easily recovered and used to help couples become pregnant at a later time. Cryopreservation is typically used in cases where the woman requires medical treatment that may prevent her from producing viable eggs, or where the woman wishes to temporarily delay pregnancy.
  • Menopause management – The symptoms associated with menopause, including hot flashes, irregular periods, changes in mood, weight gain, and vaginal and urinary problems, can significantly affect a woman’s comfort and quality of life. In some cases, managing these menopause symptoms with hormone therapy or other therapies may be possible.
  • Pediatric & adolescent gynecology Pediatric and adolescent gynecology services are available in circumstances where specialized assessment of gynecology health concerns is necessary, or in cases where young women suffer from chronic medical conditions that may complicate gynecologic assessment and care.
  • Pelvic sonography – Ultrasound imaging is a non-invasive procedure used to analyze images of pelvic organs and structures, such as the ovaries, cervix and uterus. Pelvic sonography can be used to identify problems like ovarian cysts, uterine cancer or uterine fibroids, or to monitor the development of a fetus during pregnancy.
